Is there GST on Google Ads in Australia?
Updated July 2026
Short answer: yes. Google charges 10% GST on Google Ads for Australian accounts, and has since November 2016. Below: how it shows up on your invoice, what it means for budgeting, and how to claim it back.
How GST appears on your Google Ads account
Google Australia issues tax invoices with 10% GST added to your advertising costs. If your account is set to a $1,000 monthly budget, expect $1,100 to leave the bank once GST is applied. The tax invoice is available in the Billing section of your Google Ads account, issued monthly.
Claiming it back
If your business is registered for GST, the GST on advertising is a standard input tax credit: claim it on your BAS like any other business expense. Download the monthly tax invoices from Billing → Documents and pass them to your bookkeeper, or connect the account to your accounting software's bank feed and match them.
If you're not registered for GST, the 10% is simply part of the cost of advertising, which is worth factoring into your customer acquisition numbers.
Budgeting for it
The practical trap is budgeting $2,000 for ads and forgetting the spend is really $2,200. When you calculate cost per lead and return on ad spend, decide once whether you work GST-inclusive or exclusive and stay consistent, otherwise month-to-month comparisons quietly lie to you.
