How to create a landing page that converts

Updated July 2026

The difference between a 2% and a 20% conversion rate is rarely traffic. It's the page. We rebuilt Coverite's landing pages and conversion went from 11.5% to 35.6% on the same visitors. Here's the anatomy of a page that converts.

Message match: keep the promise the click made

A visitor from an ad for 'end of lease pest control' should land on a page about end-of-lease pest control, not a generic services page. Every mismatch between what was clicked and what loads is paid for in bounces. One campaign, one promise, one page.

Pass the five-second test

In five seconds, a stranger should be able to answer: what do you do, who is it for, and why you over the tab they just came from. That's the headline's job, and it's where generic messaging dies. 'Quality solutions for all your flooring needs' says nothing; 'Brisbane's floor sanding specialists, booked two months ahead' says everything.

Proof beats promises

Reviews with names, real numbers, photos of real work, recognisable client logos. One specific proof point ('25-30 enquiries a month, up from 1-2') outworks a paragraph of adjectives. If you make a claim, attach evidence to it within a scroll.

Remove friction from the ask

Every field you add to a form costs conversions; ask only what you need for the first conversation. Put a phone number where phone-first customers expect it. Make the call-to-action a specific promise ('Get my free audit') rather than a chore ('Submit'). And make the whole thing fast: every second of load time bleeds mobile visitors.

  • One page, one goal, one call-to-action
  • Headline answers what, who for, why you
  • Proof within a scroll of every claim
  • Short forms, visible phone number, instant load

Then test, because opinions lose to data

The 11.5%-to-35.6% lift didn't come from one genius change but from a testing loop: headline variants, proof placement, form length, call-to-action wording. Split testing turns the page into an asset that improves monthly. This is the Conversion stage of our framework, and it's why we build landing pages before scaling any ad spend.
